About the Book:
This book layout follows the same pattern as Mike’s other books of poetry, i.e. poems are grouped according to category. However, there are some that do not fit in and are labelled ‘The Loners.’ Then there is a third group labelled Polyglot. Here you will find a few poems in Irish, German and Italian together with some translations and my own rendering into German and Italian of the poem, ‘The Wayfarer’ by Padraig Pearse. So here is something to appeal to everyone. ~ ~ ~
The Magic Number Seven
Seven deadly sins, Seven hills of Rome, Seven days in a week, Seven fat years, Seven lean years, Seven dwarfs, Seven wonders of the world, Seven seas, Seven sleeping brothers, Not to mention, seven drunken nights, And to crown it, The seven year itch.
Sonnet
To write an Easter sonnet, I searched around for words. A plume for my Easter bonnet, watching a flight of birds. Here comes Wordsworth to mind, “Daffodils beside the lake” think I’ll linger to find, words that I will choose to rake. Words like flowers in spring, Some known, some unknown to me. Words like birds on the wing, My sonnet I’ll just let be. A plume for my Easter bonnet. A bloom for my Easter sonnet.
