In Corcha Dhuibhne Now

In Corcha Dhuibhne now the lazy sun is rising

Beyond the Blaskets and the Atlantic’s dim horizon,

Dappling the living waters as they heave and breath,

Where shoals of silver herring congregate beneath.

And gentle waves will break in time on Coumenole,

All golden in the sun and quiet as the souls

Of those who loved to walk the sands in times gone by,

And left their soundings for the sea to amplify.

Who saw the naomhógs plying in the distant past

Between the islands and Danquin.  It could not last

Forever in a changing world; when time and tide

Caught up with them, that dream of independence died.

And in the light that brightens over Dingle Town

One senses God is near-at-hand and looking down.
