About the Book:

Sarah and The Magic Wand has a very important message centered on sharing, kindness, and friendship.  Over the course of the story, children will come across and learn about different feelings such as happiness, sadness, excitement, how to accept the experiencing these emotions, and that it is important to share and discuss these feelings with the adults in their lives.  The story is suitable for children aged 3 to 6 years of age.  From the age of 3, children begin to learn about sharing and to understand other people's emotions.  By the time they are of school age, they then start to learn about other children's thoughts and feelings, and they become willing to share possessions more.  However, they may still sometimes find it difficult to share their very favourite toys with friends.  The author, Shameim Saljoghei, believes that once children learn to understand and manage their own feelings, they can share better, and that sharing itself will help them in making friends and joining in with other children easily.  If children find sharing challenging, then this book will be a good resource.  Rashmi Inimankada's vibrant and colourful illustrations bring the story to life with detail that should attract the curiosity of and engage any child.

About the Author:

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Shameim Saljoghei was just 8 years of age when the family were forced to flee to Iran as a result of the escalating conflict in her homeland.  In Iran, Shameim completed her primary and secondary education up to pre-university level.  In 2000, she emigrated again from Iran, settling in Ireland with her family; this was where a new chapter of her life began.  In Ireland, she decided to pursue her studies in the Montessori method of education and supervision in early childhood and education, in order to work with children up to 12 years of age.  Upon completing her education, she commenced employment as a Montessori teacher.  Four years later, she decided to travel to Australia, and continue her work in the childhood sector there to gain more experience.  In Australia, she worked with several different preschools and childcare centres as an Early Years Educator where she further developed her skills, and met many other Early Years professionals from whose experience and insight she benefited greatly.

After two years Shameim returned to Ireland for a period before moving to the UK.  In the UK, she worked as a preschool teacher.  During the pandemic, Shameim had the opportunity to write her first children's story in Dari Persian for the children of Afghanistan.  She is now delighted to be able to translate the book into English language.
